Commercialization of Chocolate

Welcome back Readers! Today my blog will enlighten you about how Chocolate was bought into the market for selling purposes as Chocolate Bars.  

After the Industrial Revolution, the industries of all kinds were changed. The technology in the Industrial Revolution came up with tools to advance the field of Chocolate, which allowed for mass consumption and commercialization, giving way to the “Chocolate Age.”

The process of chocolate was so cherished that it essentially did not change until the industrial age with an invention for grinding that used steam and hydraulic process. In 1778, Doret, a Frenchman, created a hydraulic machine that converts cocoa beans to paste. Soon after, more inventions came along that made the consumption of chocolate more popular.  Quickly after the announcement of cocoa beans came a new way to make chocolate an even more available product with commercialization through Barter System.

In 1847, A company based in Britain named J.S. Fry & Sons came up with the world’s first chocolate bar. This candy bar was extremely bitter in taste and the name was not very marketable- Chocolat delicieux a Manger. After a while, J.S Fry & Sons started selling tastier candy bars like the Crunch and the Chocolate Cream.

Domenico Ghirardelli opened his cocoa store in San Francisco. Ghirardelli was the second chocolate shop in the US.
